Objectives: Promotes fitness and conserves electricity.
Taking the stairs is good for your health and good for the environment and climbing just two minutes per day will burn one pound of calories per year equal the same amount of weight that most adults gain each year. You will burn calories for yourself at the same time you help the environment by saving electricity.
One of our sustainability program for the year is “REDUCE – REUSE - RECYCLE”. It is about reducing the usage of papers, reusing the already used papers and recycling the 100% used papers (waste papers).
Why: To achieve our goal to stand up for protecting the environment.
Naufar is planning an initiative to increase the wellbeing of staff through the use of stairs instead of elevators and encouraging them to drink an adequate amount of water each day. The initiative will include words of encouragement being displayed on the stairs and information displayed on hydration levels.
Naufar has distributed recycling bins around the premises to educate staff and patients to segregate waste correctly. Over 30 recycling bins are located in our gardens and in each building. An internal communication campaign has been launched in parallel to emphasize the importance of waste management on the environment.
In addition to that, a separate battery collection initiative has been launched and is running successfully for 2 years now in cooperation with the Rassas Battery Recycling Factory. Annually Naufar is collecting around 15kg of batteries.
In an attempt to become more self sustainable and use organic produce, the culinary team headed by Executive Sous Chef Mohd Gomaa will be working on creating a chef's garden in the hotel's backyard growing selective herbs and vegetables to be used for day to day cooking in the kitchen.
The seeds will be planted on day one of Qatar Sustainability Week 2021 and we hope to nurture and grow the same for years to come.
An internal contest for the hotel employees will be taking place during the QSW 2021 period. The participants would be required to collect scrap material from the hotel - paper, food waste, cartons, discarded linen etc and create a work of art from the same.
This would then be judged by the hotel's General Manager in order to decide on the best submission and the employee would receive a special prize for the same.
This is being organized by the hotel's HR department to educate the employees on creating wealth out of waste.
Throughout the course of the week we will be displaying notices in our staff cafeteria showcasing messages about minimizing food wastage and how they should only take so much food on their plate as they can eat.
We will also ban the use of disposable cups and crockery for the week in the premises so that we avoid wastage generation.
We have tied up with a third party organization who will be collecting used cooking oil from us and recycling the same at their end for production of bio fuel.
We have installed water flow restrictors in all public and in-room bathrooms for guests and employees alike within the hotel in order to promote sustainability and limit consumption of our natural resources.
