Mowasalat (Karwa)'s Sustainability Initiative to Reduce Food Waste

As part of Mowasalat (Karwa)'s sustainability initiatives we recycle food waste at our offices and drivers' accommodations. Almost 60% of the food waste collected is recycled and converted into compost.

At Mowasalat (Karwa) during the last eight months (Jan-Aug 2022) we recycled 35,391 Kg of food waste. These waste were converted into compost and organic fertilizer of 14156.4 Kg. This is an ongoing initiative at Mowasalat (Karwa).

Pathways to Sustainability – Placemaking in Education City

Earthna's team of interns from Georgetown University in Qatar is running a workshop during QSW 2022 with staff and students in Education City on October 12th 2022. This workshop intends to promote cross-sector collaboration between universities, public and private sectors to capture various sector operational challenges, raise awareness and explore pathways and means of creating sustainable cities. This is most relevant in hot, arid climates, specifically Qatar, by using data as the basis for the decisions being made.

Qatar Preparatory Schools Debating League for Boys

QatarDebate holds preparatory schools debate leagues spread out through two competitions - for boys and girls. The tournament invites students from Grade 7-9 from across Qatar. This coming Saturday, October 15, we hope to see top debate teams from boys' preparatory schools across Qatar come together to discuss and debate pertinent issues in our society. As part of Earthna, we hope to include a topic on the Environment and have preparatory school students debate this important issue.

The greener Avenue

In keeping with our commitment to environmental protection, The Avenue, A Murwab Hotel will continue its practice of reducing paper wastes by means of recycling. The Avenue, A Murwab Hotel partnered with a paper recycling company in collecting all paper wastes in the hotel and involving all outlets to practice paper waste segregation. The Avenue Hotel has also replaced its dental kits from the usual plastic brush to a wooden brush made of bamboo.

ESG is a method of evaluating a business beyond purely financial metrics like cash flow and profit. The goal of implementing ESG criteria in the building industry is to establish a stable business with a strong foundation on which to build long-term success.

Promote the Use of Reusable Bottles instead of Single Plastic Bottles

On reclaimed land, Qetaifan Projects LLC is developing a master plan called Qetaifan Project North (QIN) that includes marine connectivity. As part of the construction phase, a large number of contractors are involved with adequate human capital, resulting in environmental implications due to the use of water bottles by required-on-site staff/personnel. The main motivation is to restrict and eventually eliminate the usage of single-use plastic bottles.
