The only source of freshwater in Qatar is groundwater which is currently being depleted due to over extraction. The stress levels on water are expected to increase in the future due to population increase, climate change, industrial operations, and agricultural sector growth. Qatar’s population is increasing, reaching nearly 3.0 million in 2023, a significant rise from nearly 2.0 million in 2012.
