Sustainability Week

Part of Element’s purpose of “Making Tomorrow Safer Than Today” is our commitment to a sustainable future. Our sustainability initiatives aim to reduce our carbon footprint by 10% at the end of 2023 and continue with our efforts to protect the planet. Employees are engaged in various practices that focuses on waste reduction, water preservation, energy conservation, and 3Rs (Recycle, Reduce, Reuse), etc. And in celebration of QSW 2023, we will have the following activities to promote environmental and business sustainability: 1.

Eco Warrior Initiative - Eco friendly / FS2

Eco friendly in FS2 We promote connecting with the natural environment and being Eco friendly in FS2. The pupils in class are surrounded with natural materials including, twigs, wooden materials, natural loose parts, pebbles in the sand and wooden baskets. We have different coloured bins to separate the different recyclable material. The Eco FS2 assembly reinforced to the children how to use these bins as well as promoting other Eco-friendly ideas. In class we learnt about where paper comes from - the children know not to waste paper.

Eco Warrior Initiative - Hadiqaa Farm /Year 1

We had a brilliant time on our class trip to Hadiqaa Farm! We caught the bus bright and early and were eager to get started with our activities. The children learned all about different types of plants and how to care for them. They planted beautiful flowers to take home and use their knew knowledge to help them survive and thrive. They also planted fruit and vegetable seeds. We looked at different types of soil and discussed the importance of soil to plant survival.

Eco Warrior Initiative - Health and Wellbeing / Year 2

In Year 2, we are passionate about protecting and saving our planet. Our lessons promote awareness of environmental topics that can have an impact on the world around us. Throughout our school and community, we work together as one eco-warrior team and make positive changes. During our topic lessons, we learned how to keep ourselves and our environment healthy. As a class, we learned how to read food labels and how they can help us make healthier choices. Here we are cooking our own healthy pizza!

Eco Warriors initiative - Eco-conscious Year 4

Energy Use: During our electricity unit, we learned about the different sources of renewable energy as a more sustainable approach to power usage. Some of the sources we explored were solar, hydro and wind power. Rainforests: In our most recent geography topic, we are exploring the amazing things rainforests provide us with, as well as the threats facing these ecosystems. We have looked at how different organisations, companies and individuals view the rainforest and how it should be utilised (or not).

Eco Warrior Initiative - Science Week / Year 5 an Year 4

For science week, Year 5 enjoyed collecting recycled materials. They then used these recycled materials to construct an aeroplane. During our topic on 'Extreme Locations' we explored the different environments around the world and the impact that global warming has. We used the laptops to research and create an information brochure on ways to prevent Global Warming.

Eco Warrior Initiative - Beach Clean up /Year 6

In Year 6, we visited Al Khor beach to take part in a beach clean up. As you can see, we were able to collect a lot of different pieces of rubbish. Some of the rubbish was what you would usually expect (bottles, packets etc.) however, we did find some very interesting items, as you can see. This linked in with a lot of our Eco Warrior themes - Climate Change, Litter, Marine & Coast and Waste.
