Biodiversity and Ecosystems

This program aims to understand the interdependent relationships between biodiversity, ecosystems, and human activities, through interdisciplinary research. It also examines best practices for conservation and restoration of biodiversity and ecosystems in Qatar and other hot and arid countries. This work informs the identification of the most effective strategies and ecosystem-based approaches for nature conservation and restoration, in harmony with sustainable human development and economic growth.

Earthna facilitates research on Qatar’s environment and biodiversity, and uses the findings to develop strategies for restoring and protecting terrestrial and coastal marine ecosystems, low-impact development, and sustainable tourism and ecotourism.

We also identify ecosystem-based approaches to support climate change mitigation and adaptation, and lead campaigns to raise awareness of the importance of nature conservation.
