International School of London (ISL) Qatar is proud to participate in Qatar Sustainability Week with a whole-school initiative focused on reducing waste and lowering carbon footprints. In support of SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), all community members will be invited to embrace project-based learning initiatives.
Throughout the week, sustainability will be embedded across the school community:
- Community Time Learning – All students will explore practical strategies to reduce waste and personal carbon footprints through interactive lessons and discussions.
- Subject-Integrated Lessons – Teachers across disciplines will integrate sustainability concepts into their regular lessons, helping students see environmental connections in English, Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, the Arts, and more.
- Recycling Bin Redesign Contest – Students will compete to create innovative, eye-catching designs for classroom recycling bins, promoting waste separation and long-term behavioural change.
- Student-Led Social Media Campaign – High School Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS) students will lead the school’s awareness and social media outreach for the week, sharing key sustainability tips, facts, and sharing students’ sustainability pledges to inspire the wider ISL Qatar community.
-
Student-Led Recycling Drives: Primary students coordinate the collection and recycling of e-waste, developing leadership and practical skills while promoting responsible consumption.
-
Waste-Free Lunch Week: Through a primary school initiative, students' model zero-waste practices by working with canteen staff to gather organic waste, which is then used in the edible garden patch composting project, reinforcing real-world learning about sustainability and circular resource use.
-
Primary Garden Tool Library: Families will be invited to participate in our green movement by donating or lending small tools for seasonal school projects, fostering community engagement and supporting hands-on environmental learning.
By blending curriculum innovation, creative engagement, and student leadership, ISL Qatar aims to empower teachers, learners and families to take meaningful action on sustainability and support Qatar’s national vision for environmental stewardship.
