Weave Qatar

Weave Qatar is a women-led community upcycling initiative by Trash 2 Treasure in collaboration with Green Island, Education City. 

Its vision is a Qatar where discarded textiles are valued as resources and public spaces become shared expressions of creativity, culture and environmental responsibility.

The initiative brings women, artists, schools, students, families and volunteers together to transform recovered textiles into modular shade and public art. Through hands-on co-creation, it aims to reduce textile waste, build practical skills, empower community mentors and develop a repeatable school-linked programme.

Launching during Qatar Sustainability Week, the first prototype session will bring together a community of weavers, crocheters, artists, designers and volunteers. 

Each participant will experiment with different materials and designs to create a unique woven module, supported by volunteers. The modules will be joined into an outdoor test panel, beginning a longer journey of monthly community making and student mentoring through the middle of 2027.
