On reclaimed land, Qetaifan Projects LLC is developing a master plan called Qetaifan Project North (QIN) that includes marine connectivity. As part of the construction phase, a large number of contractors are involved with adequate human capital, resulting in environmental implications due to the use of water bottles by required-on-site staff/personnel. The main motivation is to restrict and eventually eliminate the usage of single-use plastic bottles.
The emphasis will be on the following:
1. Avoid the use of single bottle by replacing with reusable bottles either glass or steel etc.
2. A standard-sized bottle will be provided to each member of the project team, which will be refilled from the 19-litre water bottle with dispensers.
3. Single plastic bottle caps will be collected in a designated box and recycled into a machine to redeem points, as initiated by a local hypermarket in Qatar.
4. Site office lads will be given regular training to lead this endeavour, and an incentive program will be announced to inspire them.
5. Waste generation will be calculated, and results will be shared for the overall waste reduction in the plastic generation
6. A cost calculation will be conducted that will directly contribute to reducing the overall project resource cost and creating favourable environmental benefits.
However, for the following six months, we will focus on promoting the usage of reusable glass bottles as opposed to single-use plastic bottles. Consequently, every member of the project team will be more inclined to work toward environmental improvement and effective resource management.
