How to take the challenge?
The rule is very simple, follow the practice below for 7 days continuously and sequentially to make it your daily habit.
Day 1: Find out your carbon footprint. Start your challenge by finding out your carbon footprint with the Footprint calculator tool.
Day 2: Eat Sustainably. Go for a meat & dairy free day. Food is in the top 4 most impactful industries contributing to Green House Gas emissions of which beef contributes to more CO2. You could find more relevant information in this webinar.
Day 3: Low Carbon Commute. You can reduce your Green House Gas emissions by choosing walking over driving, or take bikes, public transports and carpool to work every day. According to Environmental Protection Agency, a personal car emits about 4.7 metric tons of carbon dioxide for a year which is equal to the annual energy use of 400 thousand homes.
Day 4: Energy Efficiency. You can choose from the following:
• Keep lights switched off in unused rooms and corridors, use led lights.
• Avoid charging devices overnight.
• Keep your shower to 6 min.
• Use low power mode
Day 5: You've got m@il Try below things:
• Clean up obsolete emails, remove attachments from emails
• Keep your emails short,
• and send a box link instead of attachment
• Remove the fancy banner or gifs for any internal communication
Day 6: Show Eco-Friendly. Your choices include:
• Repair or reuse an item
• Re-home belongings no longer in use (donate, recycle, reuse)
• Use reusable bags
• Buy local
• No online shopping
Day 7: Achieve more together! Time to share your message about sustainability to your peers or network and inspire them to participate. Share on Yammer groups that you participated in the 7 Days Sustainability Challenge and nominate at least 3 colleagues to do the same using the hashtag #7dayssustainabilitychallenge #achievemore2gether #Itallstartswithme.
