Waste: Reducing, Reusing and Recycling

Kings College Doha

Waste reduction and recycling are key priorities within our Eco-Schools programme.

We have recently introduced plastic recycling alongside our expanding paper and cardboard recycling initiative. Collection boxes are being provided in all classrooms and shared areas, with Eco-Council members helping to promote correct use and increase participation.

During Qatar Sustainability Week, we will place particular emphasis on promoting plastic recycling and strengthening our paper and cardboard collection. We want recycling to become a consistent part of everyday school life while helping pupils understand the importance of reducing consumption and reusing resources.

Our wider waste initiatives include:

  • Termly waste audits and pupil surveys.
  • Exploring composting and battery recycling.
  • Promoting reusable water bottles and reducing single-use plastics.
  • Teaching pupils about waste reduction and fast fashion.
  • Participating in the British Council Sustainable Fashion Show.
  • A monthly lost-property rehoming initiative through the parents of Kings.

We also run two separate book initiatives. Recycled Reads promotes book reuse, while through Feed a Friend we are donating books from our school library that we can no longer use, allowing them to benefit others in the wider community.
