Biodiversity & Nature
Kings College Doha
Our biodiversity projects aim to improve the school environment and help pupils understand Qatar's natural habitats and wildlife.
School gardens are being developed to include vegetables, herbs, pollinator-friendly plants, native and arid-adapted species, and outdoor learning areas. Pupils are already involved in activities such as growing microgreens, making planters from recycled water bottles and learning about sustainable gardening.
Through Design Technology and Beyond the Books lessons, pupils are designing bird boxes and insect hotels for installation around the schools. Project Earthlings and Life Skills lessons also cover endangered species, biodiversity and conservation topics.
Planned initiatives include:
- Creating a King's Nature Book documenting wildlife, plants and trees found around the campuses.
- Mapping school habitats and identifying opportunities to support more wildlife.
- Planting two Sidra trees to mark the school's 10th anniversary (Nov 26), one at each campus.
The gardens will also provide opportunities for outdoor learning and practical investigations into plant growth, pollination, food production and water use.
