Litter: A Pupil-Led Campaign
Kings College Doha
Our first action project focuses on reducing litter and improving waste disposal around the school. Pupils have completed surveys, designed posters, explored the effects of litter through Character Development lessons and written an original environmental awareness song.
Daily lunchtime reminders, supported by the ’Mission Impossible’ theme tune, encouraged pupils to dispose of their waste responsibly. Waste was weighed after lunch to monitor progress.
Within five days, lunchtime litter fell from 5.6 kg to 1.9 kg. The campaign will continue throughout the academic year, supported by further pupil-led activities and regular monitoring.
Year 5 and Year 8 pupils are also scheduled to participate in beach clean-ups later in the academic year, helping them understand the effects of litter on marine environments and Qatar's coastline.
