The fashion industry is a 2.8 Euro trillion behemoth that includes everything from clothing to bags, shoes to sportswear. However, the big money-maker is fast fashion: the rapid production of clothes sold at rock bottom prices. The market is flooded daily with thousands of new designs, making it a lucrative industry, but it all comes at a high environmental cost. In the last 15 years, clothing production has approximately doubled.
32 billion garments are produced every year, 80% of those end up in the landfill or being burned. When waste in landfill begins breaking down, it releases methane which is super bad for our planet.
We all know that the Fashion Industry is the 2nd largest polluter in the world.
Ever-changing styles, fast fashion brands, influencers, advertising contribute to an ever-growing consumerism. Cheap labour and toxic materials add up to the mess the industry got itself into.
We need to be more aware of what Fast Fashion is about, what is the true cost behind a fast fashion piece of clothing that you buy at really cheap prices and become more conscious about what we are buying and wearing.
You are what you wear!
How can you become a conscious consumer of fashion?
