Earthna’s Mangrove Restoration Project, co-funded by Earthna and the MSC Foundation and in close collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Qatar University, and Agrico, centers around the goal of restoring and extending the mangrove forests in the coastline of Qatar by 40 hectares.
Guided by the principles of conservation and restoration ecology, and our understanding of the existing knowledge gaps in the field, the team at Earthna has developed the Project in ways that facilitate R&D and design innovation, as well as the development of restoration best practice guidelines and educational programs. All these accomplished through the interdisciplinary and multi-stakeholder collaboration with practitioners, scientists, educators, nature operators, and now the community at large.
During the talk, through natural history-telling, Dr. Aspa will take us on a virtual journey across the vibrant mangrove forests as well as inside the nurseries where the team activates. She will shed light on the threats mangroves face and show footage from the first successful afforestation expedition that took place in June of this year. Dr. Aspa will conclude her talk by discussing the many ways mangroves can make life-long nature stewards out of us all, and present the community engagement opportunities that Earthna has created throughout the life cycle of the Project and around all its activities.
