Water conservation/climate management: Experience in the field of agrotextiles and agrofilms for innovative agriculture

ITALIAN TRADE PROMOTION SECTION OF THE ITALIAN EMBASSY

The agricultural sector that, from now until 2050, will be facing complex global challenges in order to feed an estimated population of nine billion people. We have no doubt water will be needed to produce the necessary 60 % extra food, and it is likely climate change will cause more frequent and intense weather events, such as droughts and floods, with a devastating impact on the food production system. Increasing the area of arable land is not desirable, therefore agriculture will have to be more efficient, more productive, and more sustainable while respecting our planet and human health. As a consequence, it is imperative that more food be produced using less water and plant protection inputs. The Innovative agrotextiles could be a solution for better climate control and a healthier and safer food production. The seminar will be held by Dr. Giulio SENNI, graduated in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Tuscia. He is a member of the Order of Agronomists and Foresters of Rome since 2002.
